Wee Ginger Dug lokk into my lies

LIES, LIES and more lies. That’s what Brexit has shown us. It was founded on a lie written on the side of a bus by a campaign that cheated its way to success. It was driven by the lie that the UK has always told itself, the lie that it’s a special and exceptional place, the lie that it’s a union.

It seems so long ago now. The independence referendum of 2014 took place in a different age when the lies that have been exposed by Brexit were still unchallenged by most. The British establishment, the politicos, the luvvies, and the worthies, trotted up to Scotland to tell us how loved Scotland was, how precious Scotland was. They told us with earnest faces and eyes on the verge of tears that they didn’t want to lose us. They told us how much we meant to them. Stay with us Scotland, they pleaded. Stay with us and lead within this family of nations. Stay with us and have a seat at the top table. Stay with us and punch above your weight.
