If in Doubt - Cut it Out!

WE LIVE IN strange times, where it is more and more diicult to tell fact from iction, where the public all over the world are starting to question the previously unquestioned established view, whether that is the handbag economics of the neoliberals, the worship of growth as the be all and end all or the propaganda and divisive messages of the mainstream media. At the same time the stakes have never been higher for us, humans who are temporarily residing on planet earth. In previous articles we have covered the extreme risks we are facing, global warming, declining net energy, species extinction, resource depletion. Reframing is a critical element in communicating the urgency of the multiple crises which we are all facing. As an example, take the phrase “Save the Planet”. Much laudable work has been done under this heading, so where is the need to reframe? Well how about we look at it another way. The planet will be just ine, at least for the next several millennia so why do we need to save it? What is really behind this is the need to save the planet as a habitat for humanity. We have never as a species faced such a convergence of existential crises as we do now. We owe it to our children, grandchildren and future generations to take action now before it is too late.
