BREXIT has created this moment, a moment of possibility for Scotland’s independence, as the UK leaves the European Union with more Free Trade Agreements than the allegedly free trading US of A. This moment arises from both democratic and economic imperatives related to Brexit.

Firstly, the democratic opportunity is created by the promise of the ‘No’ campaign of 2014. A ‘No’ vote supposedly guaranteed Scotland’s place in the EU. On that promise, together with their slogan of Scotland not just being part of the UK, but leading the UK, 55% of votes was secured for the status quo. Achieved with the almost universal support of the press, from the lowly tabloids to Nick “seven minutes answer is no answer” Robinson of the BBC.
