A shocking report published in the BMJ this summer has revealed a dreadful and permanent consequence of the conflict taking place between Israelis and the Palestinians who are trapped in the Gaza Strip. A crisis of complex injuries from gunshots caused by the Israeli forces in response to recent border protests are causing severe permanent disabilities among Palestinian victims, without the means to provide prompt and essential medical care.
On 30th March 2018, the Palestinians, trapped in the Gaza Strip with little access to medical care, food and energy supplies or even fresh water, began a series of protests at the border with Israel. These protests, which were largely peaceful to begin with, were demanding the right for Palestinian refugees and their descendants to return to their land, which has been taken over by the Israelis, and to oppose the move of the US Israeli Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
