Britain has traded in its oversold reputation for intractable pluckiness in the face of all enemies for frivolities
Whatever it used to be, whatever we thought or were led to believe it was, today’s Britain inspires little confidence. There is a reason we never hear of Germany the brand or Japan the brand. When a once mighty player on the global stage succumbs to the hyper-corporatist need to make a brand of itself in order to drum up business we can be sure the Golden Age has ended. In fact, in the case of Great Britain, not only has the Golden Age passed – if it ever truly had one, but so too has the Silver and the Bronze. Britain, the UK, Team GB, or whatever you choose to call it, has watched all its metallic ages deteriorate to the point at which we now find ourselves; the rusting old age of eclipse.
