Billy Caldwell is a 12 year old boy from Northern Ireland with a severe form of epilepsy causing many seizures a day. In 2016 he went to the USA to access a particular form of medical cannabis oil (illegal in the UK) which apparently resulted in a dramatic reduction in his seizures. But in June this year when Billy’s mother Charlotte tried to bring some of this cannabis oil into the country it was confiscated at Heathrow Airport. Billy’s seizure control declined resulting in admission to hospital and it took that development to persuade the Home Office to reverse the confiscation decision.
