Cicchetti are part of the Venetian way of life – similar to Spanish tapas, they are tasty little snacks served in the local bacari (cicchetti bars) and are often enjoyed with an aperitivo. Bruschette with a wide variety of toppings are very popular, but other cicchetti include marinated seafood, salads and small meat dishes. They’re best enjoyed with friends and a glass or two of chilled wine. I made these cicchetti for my fantastic gondolier, Riccardo, when we were filming the TV series. He seemed to enjoy them, and I hope you do too!

• 12 thin slices of ciabatta

• 4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

• 1 large garlic clove, peeled
