DARE TO BE CREATIVE & COLOURFUL

You could sow your veg in regimental straight lines this season or you could unleash your creative spirit, ditch the ruler, add some colour and mix it all up. Emma Rawlings has some suggestions

A traditional veg patch is usually straight rows of leafy greens and in practical terms this is arguably the best way to grow veg. However, if you like to throw caution to the wind and shake things up a bit, why not create something more pleasing on the eye? Here we have some ideas to jazz up your veg plot, including adding flowers to the mix, growing different crop varieties with coloured leaves or simply adding colourful structures or pots to the plot.

There are advantages to being a bit more creative and adding colour to your veg patch, especially with flowers. You will attract many beneficial insects such as bees and hoverflies. There is some evidence that the mixed planting can confuse pests too.
