WINTER DRINKS To Keep You warm

Drink away those winter chills with these spectacular concoctions, guaranteed to warm the cockles of your heart. Here Anna Pettigrew combines herbs, spices, fruit and, oh yes, a little drop of the hard stuff

SPICY MEXICAN CHILLI & CINNAMON HOT COCOA

This indulgent hot chocolate combines Aztec flavours from the ancient home of hot chocolate. Made with dark chocolate, this winter drink is rich and spiced with ancho chillies, cinnamon and mezcal.

SERVES 4

■ 30g/1oz best quality cocoa powder

■ 1 tablespoon soft brown sugar

■ Pinch of salt

■ 400ml/14fl oz whole milk

■ 6 cinnamon sticks

■ 1 whole dried ancho chilli pod or other mild chilli, split

■ 200g/7oz best quality dark chocolate chips/or grated chocolate

■ 150ml/5fl oz mezcal or Tequila

■ Chilli powder or cocoa nib, dark chocolate shavings or cream for garnish
