KG’s Olivia Peace chats to top gardening bloggers from the world-wide web. This month she meets Kirsty Ward of mylittleallotmentsite.

Meet Kirsty Ward, a rising star in the world of allotment blogging. She started gardening in April 2017 as a means of improving the state of her mental health following a difficult time in her life, and soon realised she was enjoying being outside more than she thought.

You got the keys to your allotment in April last year and from then on you were hooked – what made you go for an allotment in the first place?

It was a mixture of things that made me decide to apply for an allotment. I have always fancied growing my own fruit and vegetables and from being a young girl I have some memories of going to the allotment with my dad. My dad has always grown his own vegetables in whatever space he has had; even if it’s just growing runner beans in the garden during summer, he has always grown something. So I guess this has always subconsciously played a part in me wanting to have a go at growing my own.
