Calendulas or pot marigolds are the perfect flower to grow among your vegetables; not only do they add a cheery splash of colour to your plot, but the petals are also edible and they can attract beneficial insects. As a bonus the tall ones make great cut flowers.
Calendulas come in yellow and orange and varying shades of these and some have multiple petals while others are simpler flowers with dark centres. Once you have a clump growing they often self seed and you get plants coming up every year. Calendula can repel or attract some insects. They are often used as a companion plant among tomatoes to repel whitefly or they can attract lacewings and hoverflies, which are voracious feeders on aphids.
