There are signs that the market for the styles of pictures that we all draw and paint is becoming saturated. Our club sold fewer last year than ever before. I note that makers of calendars are increasingly turning from their normal to using heritage railway and seaside posters, presumably for similar reasons. When I wanted to try making posters instead of straight drawings or watercolours it was not as simple as I had predicted. Apart from using gouache, the issues of more hard edges, simplicity and adding ‘warmth’ I found difficult to master. I can find no textbooks on the subject.
