A live band entertains visitors on the banks of Loch Voil at the Mhor Festival
Highland loch ’n’ roll
There can’t be many festivals in the world where guests can arrive by seaplane. This is just one of many USPs of Mhor Festival, a three-day extravaganza of food, live music, and enough outdoorsy fun to make your inner scout swoon. It’s held this May on the freshwater shores of Loch Voil, in one of the more accessible parts of the Scottish Highlands (just a 1½-hour drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh, if you prefer wheels to wings). Local and foraged food is a big focus, with hand-dived scallops and a ‘make your own’ cocktail garden, where revellers pick herbs to infuse their drinks, among the highlights. Other unique draws include raft building, a baking masterclass, trapeze lessons, guided woodland walks and making merry into the wee hours with Scotland’s top ceilidh bands.
