This retelling confirms they were a band that far exceeded the sum of their individual parts and each member’s contribution, alongside fabled producer Martin Hannett, came together to create a powerful and magical synergy. Inevitably, things conclude with the death by suicide of Ian Curtis, whose slide into despair dominates the book’s third act.
