It’s hard to I believe it’s that time of year again when we gear up to celebrate another Record Store Day. As I write, shops all over the country are beginning to prepare their stores for what is undoubtedly the biggest party in the record shop calendar.

They’re contacting local artists, organising in-store events and ordering an array of limited-edition vinyl goodies for customers to make the day as spectacular and as memorable as possible.

This year marks the 12th edition of RSD. We’ve certainly come a long way in that time.

Back in 2007, it was just a handful of record shops who came together to mark the first RSD. At that time, vinyl sales had plummeted to their lowest ever figures, and it wouldn’t be unfair to say that the future of independent record shops looked pretty bleak. The corporate music industry had seemingly forgotten about the community of obsessive fans.
