NEW GRANT
John Grant’s fourth solo album is due soon, and it’s Magic…
Three years on from his last solo album Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, John Grant returns with Love Is Magic on 12 October, released by Bella Union. Grant’s fourth solo LP, it’s his most electronic to date, incorporating collaborations with analogue-synth expert Benge, part of electronic trio Wrangler, who Grant worked with on this year’s Creep Show album Mr Dynamite. It also features Midlake bassist Paul Alexander, who Grant first collaborated with on 2010’s Queen Of Denmark. “Each record I make is more of an amalgamation of who I am,” says Grant. “The more I do this, the more I trust myself, and the closer I get to making what I imagine in my head.” Produced by Grant and engineered by Benge at his Cornish studio, Grant says the often lyrically brutal Love Is Magic is “closer still to how I’ve always wanted my records to sound, but I didn’t know how to go about it”. Of those lyrics, Grant says: “They’re just snapshots of everyday life where myriad moods and every sort of horrible and hilarious occurrence one can imagine mix with the pedestrian, resulting in the absurdity and beauty of life.” Grant will be touring Europe between August and November.
