APPLE PROTESTS UK BILL
ACT IS A ‘THREAT TO PRIVACY’
> The UK’s plan to expand the Investigatory Powers Act (see p19) is a “serious and direct threat to data security and information privacy” to people across the globe, says Apple. The firm states the act could lead to a de facto ban on end-to-end encryption, require government permission for Apple to issue security updates, and apply to any user of a company that has UK customers, even if the firm is based abroad.
