Curva Magazine - An Editor's Letter

Posted Monday, April 13, 2015   |   2241 views   |   Women's Interest   |   Comments (0) Spring is finally here! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter!

I have been doing a lot of radio and TV interviews surrounding the term ‘plus size’ and the #DropThePlus campaign which I fully support. Recently I have seen a new hashtag crop up, #KeepThePlus, but I am not against it because from what I have read, people have their own personal reasons as to why they would like to keep the term.

However, I will continue to support #Droptheplus and that is because I truly believe it is so often misused in the media. From my personal experiences of being slim, plus size, and an inbetweenie I understand how it feels and I would much rather be seen as what I am first and foremost, which is a woman, regardless of my size.

I shouldn’t be made to feel different from what is deemed to be the ‘norm’. What is normal anyway? The only separation that I feel should happen is for fashion to be around body shapes because they come in all different sizes.

I love that Curva is a magazine that has a strong passion for diversity across all boards and celebrating women of all shapes and sizes. We as the media need to be mindful of the messages being sent out to the younger generation, and as a mom this is something which is very important to me.

I never want my daughter to feel the way I and many other women have been made to feel, whether that be when she is out shopping with friends or going for a job. We as society seem to debate about the most trivial things such as who has the right to sit on the front row at a
fashion show, on page 30.

Another hot topic that has been dominating our TV screens, newspapers and magazines is which party you should be voting for, so be sure to read ‘They Fought For The Vote, Why Would You Waste It?’ #JustSaying

As you know, we love to hear what you think of the issue, so please feel free to tweet me @Leanna_Grant

Until next issue – and you just know it’s going to be jam-packed!
