Scientists at the University of Groningen have developed a new kind of wearable and flexible sensor, which can mimic the sensory capabilities of skin itself. The sensors are made from flexible polymers and bundles of carbon fibre, which are ‘piezoresistive’: their conductivity changes when they’re stretched. That enables them to be used to monitor any changes in pressure, touch and gait, as well as any muscle tremors and different movement patterns.
