HOW I GOT THROUGH IT
‘I never really thought about being spiked – until it happened to me’
Five years ago, Mark Ackred, now 47, was spiked at a festival while looking after his children. When he realised he couldn’t prove what had happened to him, he co-founded CounterSpike, which makes drug-testing strips for drinks

Five years ago my drink was spiked at a festival. It was a local, family-friendly event and I was there with my two children. At around midday they went off to a kids’ area and I decided to go to a wine-tasting event taking place in a tent nearby. At the entrance there were 24 glasses laid out, each filled with a small amount of wine. I collected one, took my seat and had a few sips.
