Welcome to Model Engineer Issue 4532
The Joe Martin Foundation annual Aaward for Excellence will be presented this year to George Britnell; we bring you an article about George’s background and his inspiration and a selection of photos of some of his outstanding work. One of his masterpieces is featured on the cover this time.
Ray Griffin acquired a Haighton Major mill recently but it was missing an arbor. With some hesitation Ray decided to have a go at making one and describes his success for us all.
For those not long into this hobby Tony Wright has designed a little Tiny Twin complete with steam plant.
Stewart Hart describes a Keates angle plate and we have two workshop projects: a lifting hoist for man-handling heavy items with ease and, for the promotion of health, the installation of a ventilation fan.
A ‘day out’ feature this time: the Isle of Wight Bus Museum might be news to you but it’s full of nostalgia in the form of busses from your youth!
Regular features include the lovely Skeleton clock under construction by Dennis Stones (but nothing is going smoothly!), Mariner, the two cylinder marine engine and the Garrett 4CD in 6 inch scale. Finally, Martin Ranson makes a tender to suit his little 16mm locomotive, Idris.
