Anthony Mount’s articles are always well received and this one will be
no different. Describing an unusual true vertical steam engine, Anthony
provides a full metric parts list and a a full set of drawings, opening this
time with a series of General Arrangement drawings. Everything you need to
follow this construction.
The small steam launch engine continues as Robert Walker looks at the
construction of the valve and George Punter provides all the drawings needed to
make the component parts of the carburettor of his 1913 agricultural tractor by
Saunderson & Mills.
Engineers always enjoy a Day Out and Roger Backhouse suggests another, slightly
off the beaten track. This time he visits the Scottish Lighthouse Museum and
other places preserving lighthouse history.
There’s a fascinating article by Don Broadley who casts a scientific eye
over the subject of locomotive efficiency. Don brings together the studies of
both Jim Ewings and Bill Hall, both eminent model locomotive engineers, and
analyses their test results to reach an answer to the question; ‘What Happens
to the Other 98 Percent?’ Compulsive reading for all IMLEC competitors and
followers indeed!
The popular marine type engine draws to a close this issue as Chris
Walter completes the final detail and paints the engine and Jacques Maurel
makes his Taper Turning Attachment; an in-depth Workshop project.
