Palo Alto, California—A student holds a protest sign during Stanford University’s commencement on June 12. A judge sentenced former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner to six months in jail for assault with intent to commit rape, sparking outrage among those who felt he got off easy. BuzzFeed published a lengthy statement by the victim that quickly went viral and led many to call for the judge to be removed. Turner, who withdrew from Stanford and lost his swimming scholarship, will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life. To some at the university, however, that still sounds far too lenient.
