NAIROBI, KENYA
Special forces protect people at the scene of an explosion at a hotel in the Westlands suburb on January 15. Gunmen affiliated with Al-Shabab, an Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, blasted their way into the complex before engaging in a gun battle with police. At least 21 people died in the siege, including an American and a British national.
