One of the things I did when I was a kid, besides amassing trading cards, was to collect celebrity autographs. I knew meeting celebs in person wasn’t very likely, especially at my tender age, so I embarked on the next best thing, I tried writing to a star with a current TV show through his network. Since this was the mid-sixties I picked Don Adams of Get Smart. I knew it was a shot in the dark, but felt that if I made the letter complimentary enough, maybe he would send me his autograph. I licked a 5¢ stamp, placed it on the envelope and headed towards the nearest mailbox. My head was filled with questions.Would my letter ever reach Mr.
Adams? Would he see it personally? And if he did, would he like it enough to send me the autograph I had requested?
