India is famous for being the birthplace of George Orwell, Rudyard Kipling, and sketch card artist Mohammad Jilani. Currently, Mohammad lives with his wife, daughter and two cats just outside of Dallas, Texas. His craft is a product driven by pop culture and inspired by the world of fine art/ illustration. Mohammad Jilani’s greatest joy as an artist comes from playing in a sandbox of highly gifted illustrators he gets to call peers and friends who constantly fuel his creativity.
Non-Sport Update: How did you get started in sketch cards?
Mohammad Jilani: I was introduced to the world of sketch cards by Lawrence Reynolds at a convention in Dallas in early 2016. Per his advice, I sent in samples to all the major companies that manufactured trading cards and it wasn’t long before I started getting invitations in my inbox. The first licensed set I was invited to work on was Marvel’s Agent Carter, released by Upper Deck, shortly followed by my Topps debut with Star Wars Rogue One Series Two in 2017. It’s been a nonstop train ever since.
