JOBS could be created in Lochaber if plans for a shellfish growing site are approved by the council.
Fassfern Mussels has applied for permission to install a 220-metre longline on the west shore of Loch Linnhe, at Inversanda Bay, south of the Corran Narrows, to catch and grow mussel spat, sparking the need for additional seasonal jobs.
The Lochaber-based company already operates shellfish sites in Loch Eil, Loch Linnhe and Loch Sunart. The company hopes to grow the spat at Loch Linnhe for a year before transferring them to the Loch Eil site where they will continue to grow for up to another two years and then be harvested.
