There is an apparently unfathomable conundrum on the issue of providing services for tourists and how they should be paid for.
As we report this week, one businessman on Skye has suggested the introduction of a small charge to be levied at the Skye Bridge to help pay for more public toilets and better car parking.
Countering that position is David Richardson, the Federation of Small Businesses’ development manager for the Highlands and Islands, who says that any further taxes on tourists would be deleterious to tourismdependent business in the Highlands, where there is already a perception among some visitors that the area is very expensive.
