Despite the havoc caused by Storm Barbara and Storm Conor over Christmas, the biggest hooley in Argyll remains the row over general waste collections, which continues to genenerate complaints.
While the council intimated that rubbish collections would remain the same over the festive period, many people complained, including via our Facebook page, that their bins had not been emptied, which was particularly vexing because so much more extra rubbish was generated over the holiday week. However, the good news is that the council has announced that recycling has increased.
There is no doubt we all want recycling to increase. It makes sense given landfill costs, not to mention the damage so much rubbish is doing to the planet. But the current three-weekly cycle for waste collection is not working and the council needs to have a rethink.
