We asked maternity fitness experts FittaMamma to share their favourite yoga poses to help with some of the less enjoyable side effects that affect pregnant women

Yoga offers a gentle form of exercise that all pregnant women can enjoy, regardless of the level of exercise you preferred before you became pregnant. Health professionals recommend that all pregnant women should aim for at least 30 minutes exercise every day – and if you’re not used to exercising, yoga is a good place to start. But if you regularly run, or workout in a gym, don’t underestimate the value of including yoga in your routine to enjoy the many benefits it offers during pregnancy.

Yoga improves your strength and flexibility, preparing your body for the birth of your baby and can help alleviate stress and tension, lowering your blood pressure and calming your mind. You’ll al so find the breathing techniques practiced during your prenatal yoga sessions are invaluable when it comes to managing the pain many women experience during childbirth.
