THE JOURNEY OF ASWIM
Swimming journeys, when you go from A to B with a tow float and your own steam is a brilliant experience, Ben Lane explores South Devon with a local guide.
It makes quite a lot of sense to consider a swim as a journey - part of an overall travel experience to increase wisdom – and not simply an activity to keep fit and healthy. Using this premise, we may also consider a swim as a method of transportation with a focus on reaching a destination - an end point – or, indeed, an end point that may differ from the one you agreed at the beginning because you decided to alter course. You spy a better cove to swim to, for example, so your journey changes mid-way. Much like any great journey of discovery.
If we view a swim as a journey, we can take the idea a little further and incorporate a hike, run, or cycle into that journey. Now the journey is multi-layered and has even more purpose; add in bird or even fish watching along the way, and another dimension is revealed and so enriching the experience further.
