EDGLEY SETS NEW RECORD AFTER 74 DAYS AT SEA

Ross Edgley is currently swimming around Great Britain in his Great British Swim challenge

Ross Edgley, 32, has broken the record for the World’s Longest Continuous Stage Sea Swim by completing 74 consecutive days at sea. Ross is currently attempting to circumnavigate mainland Great Britain in his Great British Swim challenge. Since setting out from Margate on 1 June, Ross has swum more than 1,000 miles through English, Welsh, Irish and Scottish waters all without once setting a foot on land.

The record was previously held by Benoît Lecomte for his 1998 record of 73 days spent swimming across the Atlantic Ocean.

“I feel an immense sense of pride, both for myself and the team – 74 days at sea is obviously no easy feat! However, we set out to circumnavigate Great Britain and create history, so we won’t be stopping until we achieve that, ” says Ross, so the epic journey continues…

Ross also stands to break the record for the longest recorded British swim, which was originally set by Sean Conway – who in 2013, became the first person in history to complete the 900-mile swim from Land’s End to John O’ Groats in 135 days. Ross stands to almost halve that if he keeps swimming at his current rate.

About Outdoor Swimmer

A growing number of endurance athletes are swimming for good rather than glory. Perhaps the most prominent of these is Lewis Pugh, UN Patron of the Oceans. We were privileged to join him on a leg of his Long Swim of the length of the English Channel, which he is undertaking to raise awareness of the plastic in our oceans. Elsewhere in the magazine we bust some more technique myths, visit the Galapagos Islands and the Peak District, test the latest outdoor gear for swimming adventures and meet the writers of best-selling book The Salt Path.
