WE SPEAK TO VEGAN ROCKSTAR, JOSH FRANCESCHI

This isn’t a Political or radical thing, it’s for me, my morals and my health

Following their recent album launch at Temple Of Seitan, we spoke to music icon and You Me At Six’s frontman, Josh Franceschi, on why he turned vegan, the health benefits and how he manages a healthy, cruelty-free diet on tour…

Let’s start at the beginning: how long have you been vegan and why did you make the change?

“I’ve been veggie since about 2013 and have been following a vegan diet since I made it a New Year’s resolution about two and a half years ago. I started off by deciding to stop drinking for about six to eight months to challenge myself; after I managed that I thought ‘I need a new lifestyle challenge’ and so cut out meat and went pescatarian at first, before I went vegetarian. I only went ‘full vegan’ after watching a couple of documentaries, including Cowspiracy – I realised how unsettling the animal agriculture side of things was. I think it’s one of those things that people are ingrained to think that for a healthy body they need to eat protein and protein comes from meat; but protein is essentially from plants and is recycled through the cow’s body.
