PowerTorque  |  Issue 43 October - November 2011

In this issue, we’ve got all the details of the New Generation Argosy from Freightliner. The interior trim changes are certainly going to appeal to the drivers, and, with a new engine under the floor in the form of the Detroit Diesel DD15, there’s plenty to find out about.

This new 15-litre is very much an unknown quantity, at present, but we’ve been in contact with two operators already running the new six-cylinder, and the first impressions are all looking good. Admittedly, it’s very early days, but if the reports we are getting from John Reumer and Jason Churchill about good fuel economy continue to impress, this engine could be chasing after the type of reputation enjoyed by the, now aging, Series 60 when it was in its prime.

Dave Whyte has been out behind the wheel of the K200, so check out how he found the latest version of the truck that helps to make Kenworth market leader in the heavy truck segment.
For those that like to keep in touch with goings on in Western Australia, we’ve got a great couple of interesting operators to talk about. Mining may be all the rage at present, but trucking still helps it all happen in the West.

The Japanese truck makers aren’t slowing down their pace either. Isuzu remains the top-selling brand in Australia, with overall market leadership, but the competition is certainly hotting up with UD Trucks launching its Condor, Hino preparing to launch a new 300 Series, and Mitsubishi Fuso radically restructuring its range and adding a host of new models.

Finally, if you’ve been caught by our front cover, featuring the immaculate W Model restored by Scarcella’s in Sydney, then you are in for a treat. Check our report on the revisit to the Old Hume Highway by a host of historic vintage trucks, plus a great collection of Clipper coaches.
