Our dependence on smartphones has left us with an even shorter attention span than a goldfish.* Apparently, the average attention span at the start of the millennium was 12 seconds, but that has now fallen to just eight. Goldfish, meanwhile, are believed to have an attention span of nine seconds. The study suggests, however, that we’re now better at multitasking and have adapted to use intermittent bursts of high attention. Better not tell Bubbles.
