Chef Rachel Allen draws on her Irish and Icelandic heritage in her latest book, Recipes From My Mother (HarperCollins, £20), which is packed full of comforting home fare that she hopes will encourage you to ‘teach future generations about the appreciation and joy to be had in great food’. Allen says she’s ‘always been fascinated by how the food we eat plays a part in weaving together the fibres that make us who we are’ – drawing on her mother’s own memories of the Scandinavian food she ate as a child, as well as collecting recipes from friends who share their childhood favourites.
