“Our values led to purpose”

Three readers tell us how they focused on what fanned their flames and found meaning in life

“If you’re not into plants, you might find me annoying, but my life feels real now”

For 12 years, I worked in TV in an art department, sourcing props and designing sets. It was mostly short-term contract work and I was often based on location here, there and everywhere. The transient nature of the role meant it wasn’t easy to build genuine friendships and I found it di. cult to put down roots. What’s more, the long hours and travel meant I always missed social gatherings and special events at home, from bank holidays to birthdays. It was an exciting job and paid well, but I realised I was slogging away at something that kept me separated from the things that meant the most to me. I desperately missed feeling like I belonged to a community, getting involved in local things, being around for events and day-to-day life.
