Is this enough to repair a marriage? Life was stressful as Alex Manson-Smith and her husband reached the dangerous 12-year point, so they tested out a new relationship course

Did you know that, if you’re going to get divorced, you’re most likely to do it after 11.7 years of marriage? Last summer, my husband, Misha, and I made it to the 12-year mark, but we certainly don’t feel out of the danger zone yet.

Our problems are a mix of the everyday and the unlucky. Misha has a demanding job as a TV director that takes him away a lot. We have two sons, aged eight and five, and our five-year-old is quite severely autistic. There are good autism treatments out there, it turns out, but they are crazy, sell-your-house expensive, which has led to the kind of debt that keeps you up at night. We adore our boys and it’s certainly not all doom and gloom, but there’s a weight of responsibility in our day-to-day lives that doesn’t exactly leave much space for romance.
