One of my friends is utterly charming. When I introduce her to anyone, it takes her less than five minutes to win them over and make them feel as if they’ve been truly understood for the first time in their lives. Nowadays, we can be cynical about charm – as a quality possessed by dodgy politicians or cheesy actors but, when you watch someone use it without agenda, it’s easy to see why it’s a skill so many of us could do with acquiring. Years of watching my friend have taught me there is no stronger way to create a fast bond, and that it’s a fairly simple thing to do.
