Secret Sark

Our very own Channel Islands offer a unique paradise escape to rival those of the Mediterranean, discovers an enchanted Leanne Bracey

The moment we stepped onto Sark, we felt like we were in an Enid Blyton novel, such is the childlike and charming quality of this three- by one-and-a-half mile isle. After the short flight to Guernsey and a night at Hotel de Havelet, we were ready to take the six-mile boat ride from Guernsey to Sark’s tiny harbour. With no cars allowed on the island, the ‘toast rack’ tractor carried us up the hill to the village, where shire horses greeted us with gentle snorts. We collected our hire bicycles and soon found Sark was surprisingly simple to navigate – in the slow lane.
