Want for nothing

On her thoughtful journey towards a more conscious way of being, Eminé Rushton finds joy in the notion of having less, yet living more

New series

I’VE BEEN A consumer journalist for

18 years. The ‘consumer’ bit was the part that kept tripping me up, because new stuff is so endlessly alluring. We want the soft yoga leggings, the inspiring journal, the thoughtful piece of jewellery… but the want never dulls and the need is never satiated. Ask yourself – when have I been happiest? Me – barefoot, by the sea, foraging for wildflowers, swimming as the sun sets. When have I felt most calm? When I have sat in silence, my children peaceful, looking up at the sky, or eyes closed in meditation. Not one of these things paid for – just free, plentiful, omnipresent.
