WHEN JEREMY TANKARD handed over his latest manuscript to his agent, she said, “You’ve got such a great story here, but the voice feels wrong – it should be funnier than it is. Why don’t you give it to your daughter to rewrite?”
The agent was referring to 18-year-old Hermione Tankard, who – when she was 14 – “translated” her father’s bestselling children’s book Grumpy Bird into iambic pentameter for fun. Tankard was so proud, he showed it around to people in the industry. The agent’s suggestion was dead-on, and in May Harper- Collins is releasing the father-daughter graphic-novel collaboration, Yorick and Bones.
