FORMER Network Rail chief executive Sir John Armitt and one of NR’s current non-executive directors, Bridget Rosewell, are among seven new National Infrastructure Commissioners. They are to oversee £100 billion of government investment in projects including the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ and Crossrail 2 in London.
Creation of the new commission, with former Labour Transport secretary Lord Andrew Adonis in charge, was announced at the Conservative party conference. Chancellor George Osborne announced more details, including six further commissioners, while visiting the National Railway Museum in York on 30 October.
