Retro Cars  |  September 2012
Tony Castle-Miller’s ’64 Tornado-Fiat 600D graces our cover this month. The car is a replica of the English-built 1558cc Lotus Twin-Cam-powered Tornado Cars crafted back in period, and contributing scribbler Martyn had a little drive of the thing and he’s still shaking now!
Alongside that you’ll find our usual mix of eclectic metal: from a ’76 Mercedes W115 lowrider packed with hydraulics and built with the utmost attention to detail, to a restored Porsche 911 Targa and a unique (and unused) Group A Escort RS Turbo. We compare 2- and 4-door Mk1 Ford Escorts this month to see if the ‘more door’ versions make a viable alternative to pricey 2-door ownership. Arthur McMullion’s wide-arched ’73 Vauxhall Viva has been on the modified classic car scene since before ‘retro’ was a buzz word, and it’s still going strong as you’ll see in our feature on the droop snoot-fronted machine.
A mega road trip to Cortina in a Ford Cortina, show reports on Santa Pod’s Retro Show, Goodwood’s Festival of Speed, and a profile of East Anglian car restorer DLF Classic Cars are just some of the other highlights in this issue.
