The ancient legend of the Greek Archimedes running naked down the street of Syracuse yelling “Eureka, I’ve found it!” had to do withhis discovery of a specific gravity testing method. He had found a way to determine if Greek King Hiero’s new gold crown was pure and not adulterated withanother metal. What Archimedes deduced while taking a bathwas that the specific gravity of an object could be determined by measuring the ratio of the density of the object to the density of the water it displaced.
