The art or craft of calling foxes is a very imprecise science. What works well
one night might fail utterly another. How often do we see foxes turn tail and run when we have just produced what is, to our ears, the perfect call? There are many factors that can help explain these various reactions, some of which are fairly obvious, such as foxes having been shot at and missed after
responding to a call or the fox clearly seeing someone doing the calling. Then there are the totally unknown which only the individual fox could explain.
