We started working on Secret Hitler during the presidential primaries, and it was really striking to us how the mechanics of Secret Hitler mirrored how fascists gain power in a democracy. [Co-designers] Mike [Boxleiter] and Tommy [Maranges] were playtesting the original version of the game, and once we came across the WWII theme the whole thing came together really quickly.
