Adele Wagstaff
Instruments have inspired many artists through the centuries; their sensuous and rhythmic shapes have provided painters with a fascinating and challenging theme. In Caravaggio’s paintings we see many beautiful instruments and also in the work of Chardin, Vermeer and Holbein.
Musical instruments have long featured in my work, whether being played during rehearsals or used as a still-life subject. The beautiful shape of the stringed instruments hold a particular fascination for me and, as a violinist, my own violin has featured in a number of still-life pieces, either as sole subject or placed alongside other objects.
