WELCOME

As much as I enjoy the spontaneous chemistry that comes with live performance, the recording studio has always held a peculiar allure and it’s the environment in which I feel most at home as a musician. Perhaps it’s because there’s something endlessly fascinating about the way that certain recordings trap a moment in amber – a Wayfarered Dylan gone electric dragging his band through take after take in search of “that wild mercury sound” – while others are an example of what happens when the imagination of songwriters is unburdened by the need to replicate arrangements on stage, and given the space to run wild – Revolver, Pet Sounds, Elliott Smith’s Figure 8.
