LETTER of the MONTH

Having just found The Strad ‘s online obituary of Kató Havas (bit.ly/2ThH7Jk) I wanted to share my own reminiscence. I am an Irish fiddle player.

As a child I had the typical classical training experience but stopped almost completely in my teens, only to resume when I convinced myself in my twenties to play the fiddle. It was a struggle with blockages, stiffness and pain; I ached, and became afraid of the stage and the recording studio. I despaired of ever finding the dexterity and freedom to express Irish music like my heroes did.
